Q= Question
Where'd you go, Bernadette: A Novel by Maria Semple
This book made me LOL! I mean, really, I laughed out loud. What caught my eye first was the fact that it was written in memos, emails and letters type formats. Then, when I read what the story was about I was intrigued even more. I have already shared it with one friend and have plans to share with more friends. I was excited (still am excited) about this challenge, but this book got me even more pumped! It has some serious issues, Bullying- by adults! Depression, Loss, Pregnancy out of wedlock, Over-working, international identity Theft and Mystery. Despite some of the serious issues, it was great fun to read and I would truly recommend it (and have) to anyone wanting a fun read! On to my next challenge book.

F = Free
Hey, Hey!!
I know, I know. The last two books I blogged about could have been also categorized as free. But this one was not fitting into any of the other categories and I just had to read it!! This one is classified as free because this was the second book that my uncle got me for Christmas, seeing a trend? Lol. A lot of the time when people ask me what I want for Christmas, Birthday, or other event they preface with "Other than books!!" I am definitely guilty for having an obsession with books. I can never have enough and I am always finding more to read. (To the dismay of my husband who sees books stacked all over the place. He is always saying that I am going to have to stop, but I never will!)
What Alice Forgot is a very real book. It discusses things that pretty much everyone goes through. With a twist. One day Alice wakes up on the floor of a gym, not knowing where she is or what year it is. All she can remember is the events from 10 years ago. She does not remember her children being born or that she is getting a divorce. She increasingly becomes appalled at the woman she has become. She does not recognize anything about her life or the things that she is supposed to be doing. The reader follows along as Alice tries to put her life back together.
I thought this book was a fun read. It made me think how I would feel if one day I woke up not remembering what happened in the last few years. Would I forget that I was married? Would I forget that I am a teacher? Crazy! Also, as I was reading I began to feel for Alice. Every time she turned around she finds something else that she had forgotten or something that she was supposed to be doing that she had no idea about. I love this author and this is the second book by her that I have read. I cannot wait until I have the chance to read her other book!
Side note, Alice's favorite drink is a Flat White, so as soon as I could I went out and got one for myself! I admit, it was pretty good!
Happy Reading!!

Hello Bookish People!
My mom and I are both teachers, she is a librarian and I am almost there. Last semester she attended a training where the most amazing Donaylnn Miller recommended a book, The Red Queen. This was not the only book that she recommended, but when mom heard the description of this book she knew immediately that I would love it! So she got it for me for Christmas, and I immediately devoured it.
In this society your job and status in life is decided by your blood. Is your blood red? Then you will be a lowly servant, working your life away to earn electricity, food, and other necessities. Is your blood silver? Then you are lucky. You are among the privileged, treated as lords and ladies, kings and queens, rulers over all, especially the reds.
Once a month certain silvers, who have special abilities granted by their blood, meet in arenas all over the country, fighting against each other in a game of showing the reds what they can do and instilling fear. During these fights the reds are forced to watch, to see what can be done to them by silvers with minimal effort on the part of the silver.
But one day, during an event where the new queen is to be chosen, in a similar display of power, a red does something unexpected, on accident. She falls into the arena, and shows a display of power! Unheard of!
This book was a fun read. I am in great anticipation of the sequel, to be released next month. This was another book that I was totally unable to put down. I think that my husband was thinking that there was something wrong with me! I was unable to figure out if this was meant to be an apocalyptical book, where the silvers had evolved from regular people and the reds were left normal, or if this was totally fantasy in another realm. You will have to read it for yourself and let me know!

Greetings Everyone!
I am not as fast as a reader as these blog posts are going to seem. I am going to be posting a few different books in quick succession that I read over the Christmas Break that I haven't gotten a chance to write about yet.
This book, Uglies, could have easily fit into the apocalyptic category as well. It discusses a time in which the society of today is referred to as "Rusties". The current society has sited "research" that said there were specific physical characteristics that made people "pretty". People who are "pretty" are more successful in society than those who are not. Also, the fall of the previous society was attributed to the issues between those who were "pretty" and those who were not.
Because of this research all citizens are given a mandatory operation to make them "pretty". This operation goes all the way down to the bone. Once people are "pretty" they are allowed to move to New Pretty Town, where all of the newly made Pretties go. As people get older they have operations to help them age but keep them "pretty".
Our main character, Tally, is overjoyed as her operation date approaches. However, as she makes friends with Shay and learns of a different option, a different society, and unpublicized effects of the operation her views begin to change.
I could not put this book down! While it seems like a longer book, it was a quick read for me. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. This book explores many different issues in today's society regarding self-image and the thoughts of society. I like how this book explores these topics and communicates a message that you do not have to make yourself fit a certain image, just to make society happy. I think that this would be a great book for teenage girls especially, because they are at the age when these thoughts begin to attack. I also think that all women should read this because the attack on women and their image never ends.
Happy Reading!!!

A= Apocalypse
Hello Everyone!
To find my apocalypse book for our challenge I did not have to look far. My uncle had given me two books for my Christmas present and one of them definitely fit the bill. In this story we meet a young girl as she learns how to cope with being in the middle of an apocalyptic event. Enter Ruby, Ru for short. As she is having the time of her life, in the hot tub, kissing her crush, when suddenly she is wrenched from the hot tub and dragged inside. As she will soon learn, there is a virus in the rain, something that will strip the flesh from your body, even if you just get one drop on you. Where will she go? How will she survive?
I really enjoyed reading this book. It brought up a lot of thoughts that other apocalyptic books had not yet made me consider. Maybe this is because in this story the rain, and any outside water, is unsafe. This means that you cannot eat any fresh fruit, meat, or anything that you scavenge. How do you get food? How do you make sure that all of your needs are provided for long term? Interesting things to think about!
This was a great read and a wonderful way to start my challenge!!
Happy Reading!
