N = Your Name in the title (Greta)

The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells by Andrew Sean Greer

I really enjoyed reading this book. It involves time travel and depression and forbidden love.
It is a fun category to have the main character have your name!
Anyway, back to the plot: Greta is depressed... has some problems.  She gets treatment from a doctor when she wakes up the next day she is in a different time period.  The time periods set in New York include 1985 (year I graduated High School and the year I got married), 1918 and 1941.  All of the same people-- her beloved aunt, her brother and her husband are in each time period, or WAS.  It was a different concept for a story and just written in a way that you couldn't wait to find out what she was going to find waiting for her when she woke up in the morning.  I do think I would like to find more books to enjoy from this author as I liked his writing style!

K- A Book Where no one gets KILLED (Greta)

The Terrible Two by Mac Barnett and Jory John
Okay, this book was so funny, light and definitely one that will be included on the read alouds for next year's library classes.  It is on the 2016-17 Bluebonnet Nomination List.  I definitely can see why it made the cut! NO one gets killed but I'm guessing the principal would like to kill who ever is pulling the pranks.  There is a new kid in town, Miles, who was always a the best prankster at his old school and who plan to be the best in his new town.  The thing is that there is already a prankster, VERY good one, in Yawnee Valley.  This a fun book for anyone, but especially if you have a child that is moving to a new town.  That child may be in for a treat, meeting and making the best friend he ever had!

V- Violent (Greta)

Eeny Meeny (A Helen Grace Thriller) by M.J. Aldridge

Violent? Whew that is an understatement! It was a book that I decided to listen to on Audible.com.
I listened to it every chance I got, you, as the reader get hooked into the story right quick! You know that these people are getting targeted by some criteria, but what? The part about the people getting "kidnapped" and they end up in a tiled room with a cell phone that the person telling them that their only way out is if they shoot the other person.  It gives you the feeling of the Saw movies.  CREEEPPPYY! When the clues finally point to where they do, it is only after deaths and one person's job getting completely ruined (their career of choice GONE).  It gets frustrating wanting to put all the puzzle pieces together but when you keep listing and do---- wow! What a story.  I don't reccommend reading at night or alone.  You keep looking behind you to make sure you aren't going to get nabbed! I see on Amazon there are more by this author with the same Helen Grace Detective- I want to check those out when I finish my challenge! This is fun, working on a challenge with my girls. Ruthi is a little behind Naomi and I! Come on Ruthi!

Towering by Alex Flinn

Towering is a modern retelling of the famous European fairy tale Rapunzel.  It is set in a small fictional town in the middle of a blizzard.  Wyatt (Prince character in old tale) moves in with a family friend, Mrs. Greenwood, and figures out that her daughter supposedly ran away.  This story doesn't completely follow the old fairy tale. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I had hoped because it was very predictable.  I more enjoyed Beastly by Alex Flinn and would reccommend that one instead.

To Purchase Nimona on Amazon

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

This book starts off with a vilain and a wanna-be-sidekick.  The sidekick is a spunky shape shifter that never gives up and has the heart of .......... everything that she shifts into.  The story then escalates to explosions, dragons, witches and a whole lot more! I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't put it down after I started reading it.  I finished in one sitting! This is a graphic novel that is a National Book Award Finalist.

U- a Book with an Unhappy ending (Greta)

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Who has a name like "Rainbow"?  A super fantastic writer that's who!! I feel like every woman, young girl from Middle school up should read this book.  Heck, the boys should read it too! I cried alllll through this book.  Girls, women, we all know how it feels to be awkward, new one in an unfamiiar setting, and not know if you will be accepted.  I mean, watch "Forrest Gump". The bus scene where Forrest can't find a place to sit? You know the scene? We are all embarassed for him and so thankful for Jenny! Same thing just reverse the sexes, Elearnor is new and can't find a seat, Park tells her to just sit down with him.  They are not "instant" friends, takes a little time, but once they are they are inseparable.  The story is told from Park's point of view and Eleanor's as well.  Eleanor's home life is nothing short of hideous.  The facts of how horrible it is has to be pried out of her with a huge crow bar by Park. But, it is totally worth it.  Their relationship is sweet and literally saves both of their lives.  I think I will start purchasing Eleanor and Park books for young girls, middle aged girls and old women! THEY will all love it! Sad, yes, but uplifting at the same time.  Read this book for sure!
